APS coating and atmospheric plasma spray services
Atmospheric plasma spray for ceramic coatings.
Request a Quote ↗APS (Atmospheric Plasma Spray) uses an electric arc to ionise a gas and generate a plasma jet. Powder is injected into the jet, melted and accelerated towards the component. AESA assesses the coating material, surface preparation and process parameters against the required surface function.

APS
Applications and process selection
An application review defines the function of the layer, mechanical contact and service environment. Surface preparation, finishing and inspection form part of coating-system selection.
A ceramic coating should not be specified on hardness alone. Impact, deformation, contact, geometry and the operating environment require assessment. Laser cladding or PTA is considered where a fusion-bonded metallic deposit is required. Other ceramics are not presented as available AESA capabilities without confirmation.
Component dimensions
- Maximum component length
- 3000 mm
- Maximum component diameter
- Ø 700 mm
Feasibility is reviewed against component geometry, workholding, surface access and job requirements. Maximum length and diameter do not establish feasibility for every combination.
Representative materials
- Ceramic coatings, including chromium oxide
Coating selection and applications
- Chromium oxide is AESA’s representative ceramic coating for APS. It is considered for wear resistance and chemical stability, subject to compatibility with the operating environment.
- Applications for assessment include contact surfaces, sleeves, sealing areas and rolls requiring wear protection. Surface preparation, coating porosity and finish affect performance.
- APS is a thermal spray process, not weld cladding. APS is considered for functional ceramic coatings; laser cladding or PTA is assessed for fusion-bonded metallic deposits. The material and component function determine the choice.
Technical enquiries
Frequently asked questions
Which ceramic do you apply by APS?
Chromium oxide is AESA’s confirmed representative APS material. The exact product reference and coating system are assessed for the application.
Is APS equivalent to weld cladding?
No. APS is thermal spraying. Laser cladding or PTA is assessed where a fusion-bonded metallic deposit is required.
How is an APS coating selected?
The review covers substrate, surface function, contact, operating environment, geometry and finishing requirements. Inspection requirements are defined for the job.
Do you accept one-off components?
Yes. AESA accepts one-off components. Feasibility and scope are assessed against the component and its requirements.
How soon will you respond to an RFQ?
Our usual RFQ response time is three working days. Manufacturing or repair lead time is established in the quotation.
Do you work with customers outside Spain?
Yes. AESA works internationally. Please include the country of origin, component location and delivery requirements in your enquiry.
What documentation and traceability do you provide?
AESA provides certificates relating to the base material, deposition material and quality control for the job. Our integrated management application identifies the cladding batch applied to each component. Documentation and inspection requirements are reviewed with the order.
What should I include in an RFQ?
Include the component, known material, quantity, dimensions, service conditions and required outcome. Drawings can be sent to aesa@aportaciones-especiales.com. The website form does not support file attachments.
